L'Inconnue/The Unknown

L'Inconnue was a young woman pulled from the Seine, in Paris, in the late 1800s. Her beatific smile, even in death, was compared with Mona Lisa's, and her death mask became a fixture in the Bohemian culture of the day. In the 1950's the creators of the CPR practice mannequin Resusci-Anne paid homage to her peaceful visage, earning L'Inconnue the honorific "the most kissed face of all time." She lives on in art, music, literature, and in the thousands of people saved every year by CPR.
