The Mask of Perception
Sophomore - Poudre Global Academy
This mask represents the perceived expectations of men and women in our society. The flower representing womanhood, and the bird as manhood; the flower signifies delicacy, societal constraints, and feminine norms, while the bird symbolizes independence, intelligence, and aggression. They are separated by gold cracks that represent that they are distinct, and that change is possible. It also showcases the slow but gradual break in these stereotypes. As a trans man, I wanted to consider my own perception and experiences of these stereotypes in my work in The Mask of Perception.
This mask was completed in partnership with Poudre Global Academy.
