James Dudley Slay III
 
Born on October 2, 1953, in Jackson, Mississippi. He began his formal instruction in illustration at the New England School of Art and Design, in Boston, Massachusetts. He briefly attended Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles and Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. He followed this with instruction from Russian impressionist, Sergei Bongart who had a major influence on his artistic direction.
 
His specialty is painting in the plein air tradition and in studio, images of the Palos Verdes Peninsula, California Central Coast, San Gabriel Mountain Range, Southern California Beaches and Desert, and the Monterey Peninsula and recently the landcapes of Tennessee. His work resides in private collections nationwide and internationally. Awards won with the Torrance Artist's Guild, Lakewood Art Association and San Gabriel Fine Arts Association.
 
Slay's work is on permanent exhibit at the American Museum of Art in Petropavlovsk, Kamchatka, Russia. His work has been shown in the Juried All Media Exhibition at the Palos Verdes Art Center and group exhibition at the South Coast Botanic Gardens of the Palos Verdes Peninsula, California. He has been a resident of Tennessee since 2022.
