Destapas restaurant in the Mission is proudly run by two friends from Madrid, Raúl and Luis, who opened Destapas in 2020. Luis is a former Sunnyside family.
It is ranked as one of the city's best Spanish restaurants by Eater SF. "Owned by a pair of Madrileños who yearned for a place that felt like home, Destapas might be the most authentically Spanish restaurant in the city — and it’s also open for lunch. The modest, open kitchen definitely feels like it’s right out of Old Town San Sebastian, but the vision here is definitely of a Madrid-style tapas bar, churning out creamy serrano ham croquetas, cod-stuffed peppers, and perfectly seasoned paellas. The outstanding house blended vermouth is made with lemongrass, hibiscus, peppermint, lemon, and other “secret ingredients.”
