This mask is inspired by a game I made up when I was a kid imagining strangers were my father coming to see me. As I grew older, the images of the face were more pixilated & blurrier in my mind. After his passing, I realized how this game represented hope. I used the pictures of myself with my children as a way to honor the only thing I learned from him – how important it is to be there for your kids.
In sharing my story, I also wanted to bring attention to murdered and missing Indigenous
relatives (MMIR) with the image of the red hand over the mouth.
